Ah the sweet innocence behind an assumption.. it will bite you every time. Lately I have been getting alot of comments from others on how easy my life must be that I do not have anyone that I am directly responsible for. At first I was taken back and thought to myself.. WHAT!! There is plenty that I am still responsible for and yes I do have to take care of myself as well. I recently had a discussion with a friend who is determined that single people have it way easier than married people.. this made me think about this long and hard. I have determined that to assume that another has it any easier or harder than yourself is quite an assumption in itself. My mother always use to tell me that to assume .. well makes an ass out of 'u' and 'me'. I use to laugh about this but now I think it is right on target. There is no 'easier' or 'harder' it is a matter of perception and the attitude that you take on when dealing with your life. And remember we choose how we are living, every time!

Usually when someone makes a comment such as the one you mentioned, regarding you or any of us singles folks having it easy because we aren't "directly responsible for someone else" it means they are very unhappy. My concern immediately was that your friend who made that comment is in fact unhappy and made that comment to you in an effort, perhaps unconscious, to call out for help.
I say this because anyone who is happy with their choices is comfortable enough to realize that happiness is not measured on what or whom you have; its measured by what or whom you love.
