Happy Sadie Hawkins Day

First and foremost Happy Leap Day! But it is also considered Sadie Hawkins Day!
(There are some discrepancies on when this day is really celebrated, either on February 29th or on November 13th. Nonetheless, I am choosing to honor it during both times this year :))

For those of you that are not familiar with what this day represents or means let me fill you in.

Sadie Hawkins Day made its debut in November 1937 in a comic strip. The story was that Sadie Hawkins was one of the homeliest girls in the town and she was already 35 years of age and unmarried. Which in that time was unimaginable. Her father was desperate for her to be married so she would not have to live alone. He set the intention for a foot race to take place in the town, where all the unmarried women could assertively pursue the towns most eligible bachelor of her choice. The prize of course was to get married. In today's time, this day is celebrated with a dance or some other gathering where the women could be as aggressive as they wanted to get "their man".

So I guess as women we get to have two days a year to assertively pursue our man of choice, that is not a bad deal. Although I really don't believe too strictly in gender roles and I say go for what you want any day of the year.

I hope all you single women have fun with this day and be gentle with the men you choose. No need to fight over them , there are plenty of good men to go around. And men enjoy the fact that the pressure is off of you for this day and you can actually sit back and enjoy being pursued :)

I hope you enjoy your day and let me know if any of you get married as a result of today :)

Till next time...

In love and gratitude

Asha
